Lighting / Leaking
(Here I am, stuck with a 33.6k dial-up connection and a 166 Mhz IBM/Cyrix. Only four months left till I come home to my 100Mbit connection. sorry for the sobbing, I just needed to say this.)
ANYWAYS - I'm having trouble with the lighting on my open-air map. Have a skybox and all, but when compiling, Q3map.exe gives a Leaking error. The map was still playable, only without updated lighting, so everyplace was very light, even inside bunkers and stuff. I now have removed the sunflare and the suncolor and direction, have NO ambientlight or something on, but STILL after compiling the map is completely lit, which annoys me... I think it's due to the Leaking error, which is the only cause i could think of, so could anyone tell me what this leaking is, what causes it, or just help me in any other way? THanks. Arens. |
I don't think that the leaking error has anything to do with it. If you were getting leaking errors it would be around the places you have light in that case the whole map would not be lit up. That's what I think atleast. If you have a sky box that could also cause the whole map to be lit up.

your skybox must be
1. made strucural. can not be detailed. 2. all side must connect. can not let anything to escape now with everything lit up. sounds like your only running a bsp compile and not running vis or light compile. or. if you get an error during the light compile, everything will become visiable. (fully lit) |
That is right, I forgot to tell... During vis compile, it reads something like "cannot find .prt file". With other maps this problem does not occur. I believe there was some command in the BSP compile command line to Force saving the .prt, just dont know what is is? anyone...? My light is compiling normally, so that is no problem.
And if the vis problem doesn't do the trick, what about the skybox, would that also light like the INSIDE of buildings then??? Thnx. |
The compiler doesn't write the prt file if there's some serious error. If everything was OK then there would be a prt file. Please post the exact error msg that you get when compiling. It might be easier to help you with that information.

No, it will not light the insides or buildings

I just thought I would bring this back up b/c I have been getting the same error. Anyone have any thoughts?
|
It may be that a light is too close to a wall. If the inner circle of the light "goes through" a wall or brush it is considered to be leaking by the compiler..
|
Surgeon, That is a great tip but that does not fix the error.

I am getting this error message..
*********ERROR********** message, followed by "entity reached from outside". I was able to compile the map before, then I went in and tried adding some vis and area portals and then it started! Since then, I have deleted all the stuff I made and it still is giving me the error. |
