u dont need to use ports, leave them at default 0. What you do need to chg is the DMZ host to point to the server ip, so it can send AND recieve packet information. apply the changes and launch server. remember, dont use ip forwarding it is not necessary. be sure to have firmware 1.38 and higher.

good luck.

Also remember, by placing your computer in the DMZ your exposing it to the Internet.

This is the easiest way to get it to show up on game spy,

If you need to forward all these ports:

UDP: 6500, 6515, 12201, 12202, 12203, 12210, 12300, 13139, 27900

TCP: 28900, 29900, 29901
You can thank L9nux for the port numbers. Dogmeat had posted them b4 but I pulled these from l9nux recent post.

forwarding those ports is a workaround for a modem/router that uses NAT.

what if my adsl modem does not use NAT and the ports work this way to start with? i can get my running server accessable from the net is there anything i can do?

i dont know anything about this DHCP stuff so is it something there?

if you have any help i would really appreciate it i am tearing my hair out over this.

If you ISP ( your ADSL provider ) blocks ports then there is nothing you can do but your ADSL modem should pass all ports to your computer

Are you running any type of NAT software on the computer and have a second NIC with IP for other PCs to share your connections?

This could be your problem and you will need to tell MOH what NIC to use

Good luck and let us know more

Forgot to answer your DHCP question.

DHCP is a way to issue people who connect to your private network ( in your home) . This will issue them an IP address when they connect.

It is very hard to run a server from an IP address, which has been issued via DHCP. This is because it could change every time your log back on. So if your trying to forward a port to a specific IP. Your IP might not be the same next time you connect.

Rule of thumb, never forward a port that is part of your DHCP table. Linksys can set aside a number of IP address that are not part of the DHCP pool. I usually start my DHCP pool at 100. This way I have a round number to remember and use one of the lower IP address for my servers.

Hope this helped a little bit

What really annoys me. Is that game publisher who uses GameSpy never offer any info on there sites. You would think they know that this causes problems with people who use broadband. Most people use a router . Why the hell don't they provide more info on their web site on what exact ports to forward and how to do it.

well thanks for your help anyway rudedog. ive left a query with my ISP as to whether they block specific ports but considering they allow and type of server to be hosted i think its unlikely.

i think its time to hit google and troll through the gazillion international forum posts for this.

if i was using a router i would be ok becuase ive helped other people do setup port forwarding for a lot of different routers.... also considered this when buying my modem since i had no real use for NAT.

Now that I think of it, that is rather dumb as hell. Why in the world would a gaming community like Gamespy put their program on a game CD, and not supply any information in the game or on the site for setting up your own server, and which ports to use. I'll be honest, when it comes to support for this game, EA has jack-crap.

Forget your linksys... it doesn't have enough ballz to handle the wan traffic. I tried 3 different Linksys broadband routers, a speedstream, and finally ended up with a Netgear RP614. The linksys will drop UDP streams like mad, your players will drop like flys in a bug zapper... the speedstream is a little better, but not enough port configs to allow MOHAA to be sitting behind the router and not in the DMZ.

The Netgear has a 50Mhz RISC CPU and 8MB of ram for caching... a lot better than anything else I've tested on the market.

(I ran into the same problem as you... check out http://www.epinions.com and read the reviews of the three routers I did).
