Stryker's take on BF-1942

Overall, after playing the demo, I can say that this is, overall, a good and entertaining game.

the main problem is EA does too much balancing, not enough research.

The Soviets and Brits had their own light MG (DP-28 and Bren respectively) they did not use the BAR.

Japs did not use German jeeps and halftracks, they had their own.

If the Japs have a Yamato, the US should use the Iowa not the British KGV class.

I also hope that the website is wrong compared to the game itself, because the Yak series planes were superior to German planes (at low to med. altitudes), if you don't believe me go play IL-2, the most accurate WWII sim to date (according to German, Soviet, and US surviving pilots)

lol....if you hadnt noticed, the game wasnt aiming for historical realism.

more or less, it was aiming for a fun, fast paced entertaining game, within a WWII setting, which in my opinion they accomplished.

OK, Ok maybe I'm a perfectionist, but I say if you start something, DO IT RIGHT.

I mean that's like making a passenger jet that can only take off and land when weather conditions are STP (scientific term for 760mm pressure and 25 degree celsius temp)

If they started making a game they should probably not do well in one aspect and fuck up the rest.

every Blizzard game ever made is better than BF1942...thats a given

maybe so.

but never were they aiming for historical accuracy in any aspect. if that was true, it wouldnt be in the state it is as of now.

if you were refering to something else...then i might agree.

there are many things that frustrate most people at first, but once you get used to the damage systems and bullet trajectories its a lot more fun.

Sergeant_Scrotum 09-02-2002 02:23 PM

I played it for a bitbut dint really like it, my computer needs more ram so it dint run too smoothly but i found it super confusing to figer out who was who & where to go. :(

I have no problem with the damage system, it's the lack of vehicles that pisses me off, there isn't enough variety.

I think someone mentioned this earlier using the axis vehicles as an example.

Sicilian_Summers 09-02-2002 04:17 PM

lack of variety?

three ships, two tanks, one apc, one jeep, three planes, one LVCP...

for both sides. wake island does not use ALL of the vehicles.

EDIT: also, new vehicles are arriving with new patches :)

already in the works are HE-111 (i believe) Tiger2, and a few more. :)

knowing EA they'll put the new vehicles in a $40 expansion pack mad:

anyway I was basing my observation on the website, not the demo.

techmarine 09-02-2002 11:50 PM

why not?

As far as games go there's no rush like blasting a couple platoons of Waffen SS, and saving about a battalion of your closest friends, then going back to steal their tanks and use those against them biggrin:

WWII was one hell of a big war, 1 billion games would just about cover all of it cool:
