BATTLEFIELD - YEA YEA I KNOW YOU HEARD ABOUT IT ALREADY...
But god damn if I'm not feeling the excitement that I had when I first heard about MOH coming out. MOH was actually my first ONLINE GAME experience, and let me tell you my testicles are tickling the same way now thiking about Next week, September 10th.
Even though Gamespot has turned into a pack of merciless NAZIS, they at least provide a VERY detailed description of the maps that have caught there eyes, and this description of BF's play - [quote:fbaf4]You won't really appreciate Battlefield 1942 until you step onto the bridge of the USS Yorktown and pilot the massive aircraft carrier single-handedly in the Battle of Midway, or take the conn of a submarine and slip beneath the waves to attack surface ships.[/quote:fbaf4] [quote:fbaf4]In the game, the island is obviously not to scale with its real-world counterpart, and it'll only take you 10 minutes or so to walk from one end to the other.[/quote:fbaf4] Only. Darn. Of course, this assumes you have a non-confrontational striaght line to either end. [quote:fbaf4]. Furthermore, most of the control points are protected by at least a pair of MG-42 machinegun turrets, and the best way to overcome these defenses is by launching a coordinated attack that's designed to overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers.[/quote:fbaf4] These are just some snippets of the most current review up at GAMESPOT, but I think the review does a helluva job in conveying the aspect that most wuill 100% agree was missing in MOH - teamplay. I dont get my DSL until September 20th (or soone if I threaten these assholes to get out here sooner), but I'll definitely have this game one way or another if not to just run around the levels, and check them out. Now. One last thing. For those who've played the demo - how was it for you? |
I'm not sure I really like the game that well. I am looking forward to the Moh expansion coming out.
|
i will appreciate a game by walking up to a spot, pressing e, and magically appearing on the bridge to move a very slow and unmanuverable object?
|
ok the game is great fun!
About the tingling testicles though I'd seek the help of a doctor or at least a hooker evil: Have fun... with the game that is... |

? - What do you mean? Haven't played the game so dont have any insight. As far as SPEARHEAD (?) is concerned, are there any websites giving DETAILED information about this? The video for Spearhead looked exciting, but as one person pointed out the player died pretty quick and it doesn't look like it has the epic feel of OMAHA. |
since the game is based on balance so much, i'm assuming the yorktown will be just like the japanese carrier from the demo in physics
to steer the carrier you walk up to the tower, press E and you appear on the "bridge" which basically is just a balcony. you can move it fowards (don't remember about backwards) and turn it, but it is quite slow and incredibly hard to steer. |
Did they delay the release? cause now they say its coming out on the 17th, fuckin ea M16:

I can see how "magically" appearing on the Bridge (which I mistook for a REAL bridge in your original post) vould be a problem for realism, but to speed up gameplay I can see why they just have you transported. And I hope it's hard to steer becaue of mechanics and NOT because of sloppy programming. |
Are there certain damage options the host can change around ? This morning im driving in the Sherman with someone gunning on top, going up a hill. To my suprise we meet a jeep head on at the top. WE explode, both dying, however the jeep and its driver survive. Tank was not damaged at all. This a common thing?

So its not out yet right?
|
Its not hard to steer, its basically like in real life - if you want to turn a boat that big, you need to plan a mile or two in advance. If you want to start or stop it - same thing - plan. Its not hard key combinations or like those annoying jumping levels in half-life, it just takes a bit of patiteince, and yes you can go backwards, and you do need to to stop the boat.
I have not quite formed an opinion on the game yet. It has potential. |
i'm not saying they should turn like destroyers, but i dont find any enjoyment out of driving a floating turtle

I can see both sides of the coin here - but I gotta say I largely disagree with Strik0r only because folks would cry bloody murder if things werent as accurate as possible. SHIPS that moved as fast as boats would have "fans" decrying the game and moaning for a patch. Now - as far as the demo is concerned - what levels are included, choice of player - mode types. ANyone have a good review of it up. |
umm, where have you been? the developers have said from the start they were focusing on arcade and balance and not on realism
|
I dont think the enjoyment is meant to come from driving a floating turtle, it is meant to come from being able to move your spawn points/planes to where you want. Maybe even stategically. It will definately lend itself better to team play. If the objectives are the same as they are in the demo, they somewhat eliminate camping (which of course doenst exist in MOH, but everyone knows what I mean).
