How does the Thompson compare with modern day weapons?
I've always wondered how the Thompson SMG compares with current day weapons like the M-16, AK-74, etc... Now I know those two weapons are assault rifles, but how does the Tommy compare with something like a HK MP-5?
|
Tommy uses .45 bullets, plus its heavy its more of an SMG. But its still a great gun, but the MP5 is more comparable to it, and the MP5 is better oOo:

TOMMY GUN KICKS ASS!

I own both version of the guns mentioned. ( semi auto )
The Thompson packs a punch but is much heavier and is not as accurate as the MP5. I do not know how someone carried the Thompson with extra clips. For a prolonged time. The nice thing is the cal. ( .45 ACP ) is a very good stopping round and will not travel beyond a room or through a person. Were a smaller caliber like the 9MM parabelum(spelling?) can exit a victim when not using hollow points. The MP5 is probably the worlds best anti terrorist / SWAT weapon in use today. This gun is so reliable and accurate. I can hit a reactive metal target at 75 yards over and over again without any recoil what so ever. Threw iron sites. ( can't see the laser pointer at that range during the day ) But as for fun factor, you can't beat the Tommy gun. My 10 year old daughter loves shooting it at the gun range. ( getting her ready for dating ) |
well... the thompson would be perfect except...
its got wood componants, no longer mass produced, heavy bullets, not nato standard, too heavy, not compadible with a wooden stock or silencer, lacked in accuracy, hefty recoil, (compared to modern day smgs) not reliable enough... fire1: other than those reaspons it'd be perfect biggrin: |
Your 10 yr old daughter fires a thompson... ed: WTF?! its like 11 lbs lol how can she hold it?! not to mention the kick of it

AutoArdence who still produces Thompson's Has a aluminum version http://www.auto-ordnance.com/ao_m1c_f.html They got the weight down to 8lbs ( still very heavy ) You can purchase a semi auto for ~700-800 US |

RUDEDOG!!!
i was wondering, what the tommy gun sound like? Does it sound like the tommy sound in mohaa? or does it sound like the tommy in SPR? or does it sound like some other sound mod that u can tell us about? thanks |
strik0r is no admin u dirty ass muncher! fire1: biggrin:

Personally I think the sound in MOH is very close. In SPR your never "behind the gun" like when your playing MOH.
With that said, I also think SPR does a very very good job at capturing what a real one sounds Here are some links to real weapons firing. Give them a sec to load. BAR - http://www.bigjimsmgs.com/VIDEOS99/BAR2.AVI Thompson (This is an early savage model, please note the recoil or lake of) - http://www.bigjimsmgs.com/VIDEOS99/28savage.avi For all you RTKW -flame thrower http://www.bigjimsmgs.com/VIDEOS99/flame2.avi The other problem is when ever I go to the range, I have to shoot from inside that building you see. Thus we must always were Ear protection, along with eye protection. I have fire full auto Thompson's at the gun store in Las Vegas and it's the same deal, firing inside with ear protection. |
