dodge
does dodging side to side when charging really do anything? it doesnt help me but when i get charged and ppl do that it works for them.
swordfight: |
If you can do it well, it can give you an advantage. If you do it poorly, it's just one more thing to concentrate on, distracting you from taking good aim.
Players aren't necessarily harder to hit when they come at you like Charlie Chaplin on speedballs...just aim for the middle torso. I sense another "Lean vs No Lean" flame war... Zone |
Well let me end it before it starts...it doesn't make you any better, unless you are not used to shooting at someone while they are leaning. Like everyone says, aim for the mid section. I mean, it's not like you would aim for the head most of the time anyway, because it's the smallest target to hit. Leaning will give you an advantage running around a corner, but a very small one. If you don't have a fast reaction time, you'll still get blasted just as easily.

Strafing from side to side does help when approaching a target. Skilled players can compensate but nothing makes as good a target as someone running in a strait line. Strafing (default a and d keys) is something you should learn how to do in your sleep. It is much more effective with weapons that let you run faster (anything but the rocket and machine guns.) Practice, and in time it will be second nature. Leaning is a completely different arguement.

Nothing satisfies me more than to kill a dodging, dancing player!!!!!
|
It actually helps more in close range than at a distance. Skilled players can usually compensate for it to a certain extent, but it might buy you an extra second or two which can make all the difference.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than dodging/dancing from halfway across a map to kill a sniper with my shotgun. But the best way to stay alive in the words of my friend WintersForge is "always shoot from cover". |
i agree. shooting from cover is the smart way to do it, but then you'll have some idiot calling you a camper...

People are way too concerned with what someone is going to call them in this game. I play the game for two reasons; 1) fun. 2) to get the most kills (with a good ratio) by any means necessary (except for cheating). If people call you a shotgun whore or a camper you should be glad, because chances are they are pissed that you keep killing them. |

Hey thats me! |
yeah, really depends if he meant strafing or leaning. when charging at someone, one is an indispensible skill while the other is just something that makes you look funny.
a good player MUST be able to strafe well. a target running straight at you is far easier to hit. leaning has it's place if you're sniping or looking around a corner. you can lean when you're running around in the open too but it really doesn't help much if the person shooting at you isn't a complete newbie since they're just aiming at the middle of you anyway. |
I set my left and right keys to strife, instead of turn. This helps me dodge snipers alot easier. As for the strife-lean trick, it's dumb and annoying. All you need to do is aim for the waist.
