If anyone has anymore advice or suggestions keep em coming please fire1: eatthis: |
You could try advertizing it. Go to public servers and talk about it. It might get you in trouble though.

GOOD ADVISE
when i started my server i thought the same thing..how to get players...HERES THE BEST ADVISE I CAN GIVE...my server fills up 10 minutes after it starts up...run a good clean server...no rockets..no respon killers..no fowl language....treat your players right and youll have guys waittin in the wings for someone to leave so they can get in...this is not a guess..THE VOICE OF EXPERIENCE...good luck with your server..BUTCHER

what's it running on?
|
a server that players get a good ping on will fill up quickly, no matter what. if you're running a small server on cable/DSL, or if it isn't dedicated, don't expect it to always be full. good servers are an advertisement themselves biggrin:

Yeah tell us the IP and specs and you'll have people from here joining in no time.
I'd join if it were CKR (or some kind of realism) and had new (playable) maps. Good luck with the server. |
NOT EXACTLY TRUE

That's what I meant by small servers though. Due to their size, not many people can play on them so there's only but so much popularity they can gain. you only end up having a limited group of friends or regulars who go there since they're the only ones that ever get in.
and often many players just prefer larger servers to join in the first place.... if I filter empty servers only on gamespy, the majority of them that show up are smaller ones. also with small servers, you're more likely to come across listen servers than with larger servers. not saying anything is wrong with small ones. my mention of good ping was just that it allows people from farther distances to play happily. if your server only pings well in the USA, you're not going to have anybody on it at 4am. a good pinging server will be full or at least still have a decent number of players 24/7. using autokick and keeping TKers etc. off your server is just common sense. taking off rockets or using the language filter doesn't necessarily guarantee popularity considering you could be alienating some users (obviously you didn't want them there in the first place, but I'm talking in terms of general popularity....those are people who won't come back). and overall, every player has their own preferences.... there's plenty who ONLY play realism for example, or only one gametype such as objective. basically you can't account for everyone on any one server all the time. it's like that saying... "you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." the key is pleasing as many as possible. |
I GOT A SAYING TOO
AS FOR MY "SMALL" SERVER...I GOT A SAYIN TOO..QUALITY AS OPOSED TO QUANITY...MY BAN LIST IS LONGER THEN A 2 WEEK PAYDAY...AS I EXPLAINED MY SERVER HOLDS 10 PLAYERS..PROBABLY NONE OF THEM OUT OF THE COUNTRY...WICH IS NOT A HUGE PROBLEM SINCE WHEN THEY TYPE A MESSAGE YOU NEED A TRANSLATOR TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY SAID..ITS NOT MY INTENT TO THROW A HUGE NET AND REEL IN EVERY MAN WOMEN AND CHILD WHO PLAYS MOH....ILL BE HAPPY TO STICK WITH THE "SMALL" GROUP OF REGULARS AND THE DROP BY GAME SERFER WHO FREQUENT MY SERVER...SINCE MY SERVER ONLY RUNS FROM 8PM TO ABOUT 11 OR 12...AND ITS ALWAYS FULL,,IM A HAPPY GUY,,YOU MIGHT STOP BY SOME NIGHT..ITS A DIFFERENT KIND OF SERVER TO BE SURE...BUTCHES ULTRAMOD/NO DIALUPS...MAYBE ILL SEE YA THERE SOME NIGHT...BUTCHER
