Read these WW2 books!
 

Donald R. Burgett wrote four books about the 101st airborne in WW2. They are excellant! Right now I'm reading "CURRAHEE! A Screaming Eagle At Normandy". Here's a line from it: "Brininstool fired his tommy. The two were slammed back against the bank so hard by the .45 slugs that their eyes popped out of their sockets and hung down on their cheeks." Yowwee! that had to hurt. This series of books is some of the best I've read.

read'em all they are very well done, a great read.

hey grinder, ill have to check that out. another good read i just finished is "A Bridge to Far". the movie is based on the book and it tells of how the allies were pinned down in remaggen during operatoin market garden. tells of the fueds between monty and ike and of the persistant problems that plagued the whole operation. very intense with some individual stories of courage and bravery. im out.

Yup...I've looked for some good WW2 novels....Maybe some about NZers in North Africa....Haven't been able to find much, but this looks alright....I'll check some out.

I'm personally new to this particular forum as I'm always playing MOH, but I just thought I'd add that D-Day by Stephen Ambrose is a MUST READ for any WWII enthusiast. In the intro he explains that he was actually commissioned by the Army to get as close an account of D-Day as he could for their records. That includes talking to Germans, French, Brittish, Canadian and American soldiers. He also does an interesting comparison of Ike and Rommel, too.

Yeah, well......Everybody has read that! It's a classic around here! Ambrose is great!

Read Heinz Hohne's "The Order of Death's Head". It's written by the publication director of a German magazine called "Der Spiegel", and it basically discusses everything about the Schultz Staffel(SS). It also known as one of the most acurate, if not the most acurate books about the SS. It's also a harder book than Ambrose's books, since it talks largely about politics, and the structure of the S.S. and the NSDAP; lots of names to remember. So, I don't recommend it to the younger ones of the forum. It also discusses lots of the atrocities committed by the S.S.

McCuster... SNOWY PARK SUCKS!!! woohoo... as for the books ill look at em next time i go to the library... so far the only book ive read about war would be "All quiet on the western front" but id love to read one on WWII, thanks alot for mentioning them...

These books are an easy read. He describes stuff in an interesting and vivid way. My girlfriend doesn't read military books but she even thought they were good.

Enemy at the Gates was good.

but band of brothers still wins my choice of all-time book
its just so action packed and detailed

Das Reich by James lucas is a good book bout the 2nd SS

Also the Blonde Knight of Germany about Erich hartmann is a good one to.

The forgotten Soldier Guy Sajer is another good one.

The rise and fall of the third reich. Is well a big book. Lotz of politics and everything. Im 13 so i had a lil trouble reading it.
