Best Foreign Film You Have Seen

OK We have talked about favourite movies atc, but what about foreign films? And I don't mean British or Australian films, but non-English ones.

Also imo I beleive all foreign films should be watched in subtitles, dubbing is so awful.

OK for me...

La Vita e Bella aka Life is Beautiful - Brilliant film about Holocaust in Italy, hard to beleive that they made a fantastic comedy set.

Jean de Florette and it's next installment Manon Des Sources- Superb French films, stars Gerad Depardieu and Auteuil. Great movie with many twists and turns.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Stunning cinematography and locations, best martial arts movie.

Stalingrad - Touching German film about soldiers who go through the hell of Stalingrad.

I think "Das Boot" was good, we watched the subtitled version in German class and I understood most of it without subtitles cool:

Does Anime count?

I sometimes watch a lot of japanese kung foo nija stuff from the 70/80s, theyre usually on in the small hours of the morning when im home from the pubs. I cant think of a specific favourite but the japanese aint shy in getting their kit off, or swearing........and for some reason those ones tend to stick in my mind......for whatever reason freak:

I suppose Anime counts as foreign, so I'll add Ninja Scroll, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Castle of Cagliostro to my list.

Anyone recommend other anime movies? I'm keen to hear about some other good ones.

Robotech has a good storyline but the bad dialogue (bad translation?) and teh corny love triangle thing just ruined it.
