Vid card intallation problem.
 

I am having trouble installing a new video card into my system. The system has a onboard video card from intel. I disable it according to HP, and when I intstall the new card my machine won't boot up.

The new card is a Radeon 700, pci. My system spec are:

hp pavilion 6764
pentium celerom 733 mhz
526(or nearest #) of ram

I suspect it has something to so with disabling the onboard card through BIOS, but i haven't managed to find anything there to disable it.

If anyone has encountered this problem and could shed some light on my situation I would appreciate it.

Yes you have to disable it in bios.it should be in advanced chip set features.And will say something like onboard video.it may be an onboard agp video card too .but you most find and dissable.do you have mother board manule.it should say in there.

my bad i just looked.It should be under integrated peripherals,at least my onboard sound,and modem are.I would never buy a mother board with onboard video.But I am sure you bought the whole thing at one time.

A strong case against buying what I'll call "proprietary" computers. ie: dell, packard bell, HP and so forth. They not only pose a real bitch a lot of the time when you want to add/disable things but also tend to have:

1) WAY fewer PCI slots (ie: less toys you can add to it)
2) A non-ATX formfactor (you can't use a generic mootherboard to upgrade)
3) Fewer drive bays (you can't add as many disks/cdroms/dvds)
4) A STUPID recovery CD that loads EVERYTHING windows can possibly offer (most of which you'll probably never use.....BLOATware)

and on and on and on......

I will always build my own bawx using only parts I have read reviews on, or from manufacturers that I trust. And I'll $ave a $hitload of money doing it myself.

Thanks all for the input, although I still don't have it up, you have help in narrowing down the possibilities. THrough some research at the Intel site, I have dound that with some computers one can't disable their vid card in BIOS, which I believe I am one of those. That would explain the time I spent in there searching for something. And as for turning it off through Device Manager, I think that is the case with me, but after many attempts I still haven't gotten too far.

I think it is time for me to bite the bullet and give the manufacturer a call. From the post I have read in here there are a lot of knowledgable people, but I will not bother you with the details. That could get cumbersome.

So again, thatnks for your help, and in the future I will pay attention to what I am buying. But it has been a learning experience!!

Set the on-board card to Auto. Then boot up with the new card.

Finally got it. I ended up bringing it into the place where I bought it for them to install, and it turns out that the Radeon 7000 won't work with my onboard graphics. So I returned it, and bought a Geforce 4, and first time I installed it, it worked.

So I can finally get my MOH fix again:)
