I haven't seen my frame rate drop below 45, and I get as high as 85. Maybe it's the SDRAM you're running, half the bandwidth so can't keep up with high transfer needs when things get hairy?

Setting you HD settings to a single size will help. Also defrag your drive before running, and make sure that there is nothing running in the background, I.E. Winamp, real player, direct cd etc.....
