For me it would be the film Blade Runner. Ending (close enough) on the roof after fighting with the last replicant, Deckhard is saved...

Two of my mum's Uncles were in the Australian...

Two of my mum's Uncles were in the Australian militia and fought in new Guinea. One was shot crossing a creek by a a Japanese sniper. Other made it back.
