go to internet game (not LAN)
click on "browse internet servers"
note - many of the servers listed are not 1.1 and are 1.0 so...

gayspy has this filter to select servers v.1.0 or v.1.1 as well but has many anoying ads, but there is a thing called "gamespy anti-ads.exe" that helps a little.

and I get similar framerates - it goes way up when there aren't enemies around like 80fps or something but when there is a rocket flying by or several enemies it...
