[quote:c8f59]However, I think that buying SDRAM is also a waste of money. I still don't think you understand what DDR is. Having DDR ram does not mean that you've "doubled" the amount of ram you have installed. It means the ram runs twice as fast (well, not actually twice as fast but in theory). That means anything which goes into ram (which is a lot of stuff) gets processed faster. 512 megs of DDR is not equivilent to 1 gig of SDRAM. It's the same amount of storage space, just faster.[/quote:c8f59]

Lol. This I know. DDR is still a waste of money right now in my opinion. I mean, it's this whole sub-culture where "faster" is better and absolutely needed. I mean you're gonna see guys go out and spend 400-500 dollars on the new nVidia card. FOR WHAT! So they can get an extra 300 points on their 3DMARK score. That, in my frugal mind, is fucking sick. I cannot understand why a casual gamer needs anything (at the moment) over 1.5gigs of CPU speed, 512megs of ram, and a 64mb DDR video card.

But, just like clockwork, when those new 3 gig cpus come out, and they read them reviews, they MUST have it. Spend 500 on a vacation with your significant other - nah. Gonna go get a l337(sp?) CPU.

Insane.

Keep in mind this is NOT directed at you, just my general opinion about this attitude.
