Halo was a real let down for me.
When you first pick up and play it blows you away. I have it on x box and the crisp graphics really impressed me, they AI is usually quite good, and the limited weapons and ammo is also good - if only for reducing the chance of the game being a shoot em up, but also thats its not often you only get a couple of guns in a game. The early levels are great fun.
that aside, the game is pretty.....crap..
the vehicals, as good as they are, have limited use, I was hoping for mass land battles ala Operation Flashpoint, but fighting in vehicals is too easy and theres not a lot to do with them.
The levels are basically completly linear. and the latter levels are identicle and repetitive that it gets to the stage where you hate the game and just want the crap levels over and done with. Enter room, kill enemy, run around the circlular corrider path in the room, go through the exit door to nex room, enter room, kill enemy, run around the circular corridor path in the room etc etc. It is literally the same thing for i think its 5 rooms. then if that isnt bad enough, you have to go all the way back down again M16:
The thing that really really pissed me off about the game though was the enemy in the latter levels. The Flood. Zombified creatures that come after you in all directions and there are loads of them.
I hate zombified things! i wanted to fight "normal" enemy like the covenant aliens.
Its like playing return to castle wolvenstien. you start off shooting german soldiers, and then they ruin the game by throwing in some stupid zombie storyline.
The final thing (though im sure ive forgetten some things i dont like about halo) is you have that massive halo planet - and you cant explore it.
Basically Halo is half life with better graphics and fewer weapons. Now while half life were/are good games, i dont think Halo cuts its.
oh yeah.......and its far far too short.
i know there are two more halos still to come to finish the story but finishing halo didnt leave me feeling i had accoplicied anything, or hungry for the sequel. its a sort of "is that it?" game.
thats my opinion anyway. hope it opens some peoples mind up.
