Yes, completly serious. I've posted this several times.

SP1 for XP and SP3 for Win2000 has a .DLL file that fauks with video cards using both NVidia VSync and a NT-based OS.

TO get rid of it, you don't install/uninstall the SP. To keep your PC secure, have all of the hotfixes from the Windows Update. I now run BF1942 @ 1024X768 @ 32-bit at about 85FPS. This is the same with GTA3, untill they released a patch.
