nasa officials said that foam that came from one of the boosters hit the left wing on liftoff. all throughout the 15 day mission nasa was testing and prodding the left wing area to determine if the shuttle had compromised the astronauts safety..they went ahead with the re-entry and 6 minutes before disintigration they had 3 seperate sensors go off in the left wing area. the have all but ruled terrorism out at this point. they are pretty sure the debris that hit the left wing at take off was the culprit.
