1. new document, black background
2. type in the desired word(s) that you want to set on fire. TEXT MUST BE WHITE!! we'll use the word "BLAH"
3. rasterize the type Layer>Rasterize>Type
4. duplicate the layer. Layer>Duplicate Layer
5. create a new layer, filled with black. place it behind the layer you just created Layer>New Layer> Mode: Difference. check the box that says "fill with black" or something like that.
6. rotate the new layer Edit>Transform> Rotate 90 CW
7. add wind Filter>Stylize>Wind direction: from left. add wind enough so the streaks off the text is long. i usually apply it twice.
8. apply gaussian blur. Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur. my radius is .5
9. rotate the text 90 CCW Edid>Transform> 90 CCW. now place the modified text above the old text
10. create a new layer, filled with black. place it behind the copy of the text, and merge the two layers. Layer>New Layer>Mode
ifference. click the box that says "fill with black" then having the duplicate of the text layer selected, merge it with the black layer.
11. liquify the text. Image>Liquify use the top brush to make the streaks off the letters look like fire. when finished click ok.
12. change the mode of the layer to screen.
13. add color. Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation click colorize. play with the settings to get the desired color.
