Ok. I will show you how I blend two images together using only the eraser tool in Photoshop. I don't have PSP, so you guys will have to figure it out for yourself. Here goes:

1. Create a new RGB image (i.e. 16million colour jpg) For the purposes of this tutorial, I will use a 500x200 image...don't make your sigs this big, please.

2. Open your source images. I am using two images named omaha-1.jpg and M1-ammo.jpg.

3. Click omaha-1.jpg, select all, and copy.

4. Click the blank sig image and click Paste. This will paste the omaha image as a new layer in Photoshop.

5. Resize the omaha layer as need be.

6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for the M1-ammo.jpg.

7. Choose the omaha layer and using the Layer menu, bring this layer to the front. This will cause the omaha graphic to block out a lot of the M1-ammo layer. At this point your graphic will look like this:

8. Choose the eraser tool from the toolbox and use the following settings: Brush - 200 (the kinda blurry one), Opacity - 100.

9. Start on the FAR right of the image and start slowly moving left with the eraser. You'll notice that the edge gets nibbled away gradually with the blurry brush.

10. Use your judgement regarding how much of the omaha image you want to erase.

11. You're done. Does it look like this?

This is a very simplistic tutorial on blending, but it really doesn't have to be much more complicated than this. Mess around with different brush sizes and opacities.

Hope this has been helpful.
