o would be a open e note the 2 would be the 2nd frett of the a string. the 3 would be the 3rd freet of the a string. a frett is the silver bars that go across the neck. so just look at what strings its on and count the fretts for the number. hope that helps. and buy a issue of guitar world it explains in detaile there good luck
I undertsand a little but its much easier for me just to see the chords and to play them out in my heard or see them written in this style of format

A -3 times
C-2 times
g-5 times
