I think expectations are a major part of this. I had no expectations. I came from playing UT and AvP, and this game is so much better. If you had never heard of this game until you tried it, what would be your opinion?

I know that how much I enjoy a movie is inversely proportionate to my expectations.

Did the guys who programmed it also do the marketing? Maybe your anger is more appropriately directed at ad execs rather than the game developers. I wrote a letter to the developers of RISK II because they managed to develop even worse AI than the previous version, while claiming everywhere that it was much improved. Even supposed unbiased 3rd party reviews made this false claim. Yet it was as if the developers had never played the game or consulted experienced players. I was so pissed I wrote a letter explaining the viewpoint of a long time fan of the game (i.e. their market). The responded saying basically 'too bad. we can't please everybody.' So I can understand being upset if you have been waiting a long time and being fed false hype.
