West Point TV Show?

There is a rumor about a Tom Hanks West Point show. Tom Hanks is a principal partner in a company called Playtone Productions. Playtone did the miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon" and is currently producing a 13 part miniseries with Steven Spielberg based on Stephen Ambrose's "Band of Brothers."
They have a contract with Fox to produce a pilot for a television series. The working title of the series is "West Point." They are in the final stages on the script, and we are most anxious to read it. Playtone expects this will move along to a series that will air beginning in the fall of 2000.
The series will focus on a group of young Americans as they arrive at USMA and progress through the cadet experience. The pilot covers their arrival on R-Day and the first few days of Cadet BasicTraining. The script pilot should be finished this month and they are looking to film in March.
At this point, USMA assistance to Playtone has been in the research arena . Hanks' partner (Gary Goetzman) and writers visited us in November and we have been fielding questions from them as they progress with the script. Any additional support - specifically filming here at USMA - will be contingent on DA and DOD approval of the project. This will entail script review for accuracy and plausibility.
So, while we are still in the early stages, we are optimistic that this will develop into a network series for the fall of 2000, which would be a significant public affairs opportunity for West Point and the Army. Playtone has asked USMA to not publicize this extensively right now. Speculation is they plan on a media blitz once the series commitment is firm. I'm sure you can understand how excited we are about the prospect of this. Tom Hanks has a sterling reputation when it comes to things military, and we look forward to a first class presentation of West Point.

What's this ^?
