my grandfather during ww2 was a Major sergeant in the rangers, 1 st batallion, and even trained with the second, but was transferred to the army because his money was the only support for his mother. He landed on d-day +3 and fought throughout the early normandy campaign, he even saved one guy who had hus legs blown off after my grandfather caught him sleeping on his post and sent him to a hot spot. My grandfather also blew up a tiger tank on his own with a bazooka, in the tracks after it killed much of his platoon. He was wounded pretty bad by some shrapnel and sent back to england and awarded a medal of bravery. He is still alive today and visited normandy and other areas where he fought about 2 years ago.
