I too have a Logitech Optical Mouse, Dual Optial version. And for me, I would suddenly find myself looking either at the sky or my feet. During a gun fight, this is not where you should be looking. I changed my mouse pad to a uniform color and it solved all my problems. My old one had lots of colors, different small designs, ect... Duracell Hockey Mouse Pad to be precise.
