thats even more ignorant to say. there are a shitload of bands that are better than metallica in every way, shape, and form. Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, and many more bands are so much better. its not fair to say they are the best band that ever lived, how can a band be the "best" band? how can you judge them? thats just like the top 100 guitarists list, how can you make a top 100 best bands list?
and to add to my post, what if kirk wasnt in metallica? the fatal bus crash which ended Cliff Burton's life (RIP buddy) could of killed Kirk instead. they made a bet one which bunk they wanted to sleep on, and it just so happened Cliff won it. If kirk was sleeping there, he would of died...so say kirk wasnt around any more and say.....Jack White from the White Stripes filled in his place, would you then say Jack White from the White Stripes was the best guitarist because he is in metallica?
