Clever...But if you actually think about it it's not the case. Why did Upham at the end shot that specific German but let go the others? Because he saw how he stabbed Mllish and shot the other Americans without mercy, and he also regret of letting him loose when they had a chance to shoot him. Conclusion: So the message the movie's trying to tell us is 'take no prisoners, shoot or get shot at'
