[B]I would recommend more ram.
Nowadays games can use more than 256MB..

I have a system with 1.0Ghz Athlon, 512 DDR RAM and a GeForceMX/400 64MB. I still get pretty good framerate in battles with settings at 1024x768res and max effects...about 20fps usually. With all settings at medium I get about 40fps.

Also check your drivers and FSB speed.
Hopefully you're running at 133Mhz FSB...
Make sure you're using the most updated AGP drivers for your motherboard, and I would recommend Detonator 21.83 drivers for your vid card. 23.11 drivers have given me major problems..

I agree with HellBaby here - my system is pretty similar and I get 30 fps +/- 10 fps on Omaha.

I did notice one thing that will make my frame rate drop drastically---FIRE!

You know when you blow up trucks the engine starts burning? When I look at that fire, from say about 5 metres away, my fps will drop to about 15fps +/- 10. Walking away from or nearer the fire (while looking at it) won't change the fps by much. This was when playing at 1024x768x32, max settings.

I tried changing one or two settings in the game but couldn't get the frame rate up. Didn't bother after that cos I'm pretty satisfied with the fps I've got now. My system is:

Athlon XP 1500 @ 1338MHz
Epox 8KHA+ mobo
2 x 256MB Kingston DDR RAM
Abit Siluro Geforce2 MX400 o/c 200/195
nVidia 23.11 ref drivers
40GB Maxtor D740XL 7200rpm
52X Aopen CD-ROM
Enlight 340W p/s
