Its not restoration, its coloring. The photo's were not color to begin with therefore, you cant "restore" there color. In these cases restoration would be removing the small artifacts (white blips), and removing some of the haze that covers the photo, that appears to have come from digitizing it.

Coloring in this manner is not a slam, because it is fairly tricky to pull off and still make the image look good. Some nice stuff on the new one, the helmut on the other one looks off compaired to the rest of the image.
