Does it have to be WWII or nonfiction?

If not, the '....... King' trilogy(Seer, Demon, Warrior) by Chris Bunch is are a great group of medevil/adult/military/fantasy novels.

Also for non-fantasy modern military books: Anything by Larry Bond.
