Default painless headshot? - 03-17-2004, 01:49 PM

this is for anyone who knows about the brain or neuroscience
plz, dont ridicule this question if you have no proof youre right

the case of phineas gage- 1850s, gage had a railroad spike shoot thru his head, severing the connections between the limbic system and the prefrontal cortex. he survived the accident, but could not control his emotions, acted like a 2 y/o

thing is, when it happened, he didnt feel too much pain outside of the initial shock; he could walk, talk, etc. this is because there are few pain receptors (nociceptors) in the brain

so my question is, technically, are gunshot wounds to the head not as painful as they look?
