It's the same type of question as: did the French and other people during the Dark Ages feel anything when they were sent to the guillotine? People have speculated how long you have vision and know what is going on. I think in most cases, a gunshot wound to the head would not be that painful, and even if it was, it would only be for a few seconds before you died.
