That's not true. There are people from all walks of life in the NRA.
Maple, I started contributing to the NRA when I saw a Senator on TV say that he didn't want to stop at background checks, etc. He said he wouldn't stop until he had taken all guns out of the hands of Americans, including, he said, shotguns and other hunting guns. So I belong to the NRA to help support an organization that is working to safeguard my right to own a gun. That's enough for me. If you want to know what I get, materially, for my membership. I get a monthly magazine called the American Riflemen. It contains articles ranging from tales of guns used throughout history to current political debate. Being a history buff I really like the articles about how the M1 was developed, etc. --- and like Eames said you can also get discounts on rental cars, hotels, insurance, etc but I have never made use of those benefits.
