I need some help trouble shooting the freeze problem. Below I will post the e-mail exchanges I had with EA. They actually have some pretty good suggestions in them that might help others. Unfortunately they did not solve my problem.
My specs
P4 1.6
MSI Ultra 645 MB (ms-6547)
motherboard sound avance 97
hercules 4500 64mb video
256 MB DDR ram
20 gig HD
XP Home Edition
I am pretty sure it is the video since disabling the sound still does not fix the problem. Is anyone using the hercules card with success?
and in case it is not the video but sound, is anyone using this mb sound with a different video with any success?
Thanks
Paul

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. If the game still will not run, unfortunately, I
have no further suggestions for you at this time. We have exhausted all of
the standard troubleshooting which can be done remotely, and at this point
the game should be running properly but is not. This could be due to a
hardware incompatibility, which we are not aware of, or simply a problem
that was overlooked due to the nature of this correspondence. If you
continue to troubleshoot your machine on your own and solve the problem,
please drop us a line. If you would like to return the game for a shrink
wrapped copy which you can return to the place of purchase, please send the
entire game contents along with a copy of your original receipt to the
address below:

Chris,
I disable the sound. All I can do in the training scenario is run around.
Without the sound it doesn't activate the objectives to move on. After
about 2 minutes of doing this it still locked up. I guess its the video
card. That's strange I have a hercules 4500 64MB with the latest drivers.
What else could it be?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. Ok, that's strange. I don't know how it could be
re-writing the config file. Lets try this though. Right click my computer
and go to properties. Then click on the hardware tab, and then the device
manager button. Left click on the + symbol next to sound, video, and game
controllers. Then double click on your sound card. From here, disable your
sound card, then close out and re-start your system. Then try loading the
game. If this works, then we know the sound card is the culprit here.
Hopefully these suggestions will help resolve your difficulty playing the
game.
Thank you for contacting EA Technical Support.

Chris,
There were no old drivers. I tried the software fix and it still locks up.
Funny thing is after I save the cfg file and re open it the change is there.
The game still crashes and after a hard reboot when I open the file the
change is not there any more. Is the game "fixing" the change before it
runs?
