Actually, I think that the buddhist theory might be wrong, as is the History channel. The Nag Hammadi texts do mention (as does the Gnostic Gospels in the Gospel of Thomas) that during his teen / young adult years Jesus was in Egypt and goes into alot of detail on things that very nearly coincide with buddhism, but are very much Egyptian in birth. Also, Egypt seems to have been in focus (for the jews, jesus and his parents) throughout the bible... i would think they omitted the non-following the christian lifestyle, but left in other parts, making it read and feel (and seem) incomplete...
