The American and German reticles are accurate. The 03 usually had a Weaver M73B1 2.5x (sometimes up to 5x) power scope. The German scope was less standardized, but almost all had the post cross hair. You just had a larger mix (they were typically Zfxx or Zxx). To check for yourself, look in "The Book of US Sniping" or "The German Sniper: 1914 - 1945". The latter is particularly full of detail and is the source most collectors use.
