I brought up the topic of gays because it is a perfect example of blind hatred.

There are so many people who hate homosexuals that it has sort of become the status quo. So many people use "gay" and "fag" as insults, words used to incite violence. The Nazis really functioned in the same way. They demonized Jews so much that the people of Germany simply accepted what they said as the truth, without questioning or thinking for themselves. As a matter of fact, I still hear people use "Jew" as an insult here in the US. I find this pretty disgusting.

Hating someone because of what someone else says about them is wrong. This is what breeds violence and war.

Another example would be the current conflict in the mideast. Some people I have spoken with really believe that internment camps for the arabs would be a good answer to the problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It's really scary how easily people are convinced to hate. It is the reason the U.S. was attacked, and I certainly hope our country does not follow the same road, that we have the presence of mind to stop the downhill slide towards hatred and murder.

P.S.
On the topic of gays:
Some might take offense at this, but homosexuality is probably some type of disorder in my opinion. I'm not really that offended by people jokingly using "fag" or "gay" as jibes, I would sort of equate it with calling someone "retarded". But the real problem is when someone thinks it's OK to commit violence. Would you be so quick to condone violence against a retarded person?
