There were 19,171 Alcohol-induced deaths in the United States each year, not including motor vehicle fatalities (1999)
There were 26,259 deaths in the United States from Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis (1999)
Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States (1999)

Fifty-two percent of Americans ages 12 and over have drank alcohol in the past month (1999)
Fifteen percent of these are "binge drinkers" five or more drinks on the same occasion at least once in the past month
