And that appearance of the shotgun in the Thin Red Line was accurate. Shotguns were used in WWII, but they were very rare, and their usage occurred mainly in the Pacific theatre, where the brush made spotting enemies difficult. So the shotguns were used in such circumstances. However, in MOH the shotgun's appearance is the result of a desire to please the Quake people, who apparently love sprinting head on into machine gunner knowing they will respawn in a couple of seconds.
