Most americans don't car about hockey. ESPN 2 is getting a 0.2 rating for the world cup. I don't really know how the ratings work, but poker is getting three times the viewers as compared to International Hockey.

This is why when the NHL comes back from lockout, there will be less American teams than before. The US population will stop caring about hockey all together, and in turn teams will fold.

It's the opposite in Canada where were pretty much at our height. In 2002 for the gold medal game, over 10 million Canadians watched the game. 10 million may not seem like a lot since 20 million people in the states watch "The Apprentice" regularly and other shows like ER and such, but Canada has a population of 30 million. That means 1 out of every 3 people in the entire country was watching this game. Now think of how many children/old people/working people couldn't watch the game + people who don't like hockey. 1/3 is an extremly high number. That would be approximatley 92 million people if this had happened in the states. I doubt any show in the states had 92 million people watching. Perhaps Seinfeld, or some show like that, but you can see that Hockey is extremly important. 5 million people watched the Flames in the playoffs regularly every time they played even though their just representing one city, not the entire country. I think we get the point.
