Kid: HEh, mom some crazy guy ran into our house wih a gun and theres a U.S. tank coming up the road
Mom: Lets leave
Tank: Bang

maybe they made it out maybe they didnt. But that guy who ran in probably didnt make it out either. Chjances are thoug that the kid and mom would have heard explosions and gun shots and they would have let by then.
