Well Jin theres pvt E1, E2, E3, All of which are called privates. So he may have been an E3 (private first class {pfc}) and was demoted to private (E2).

Most civies simply refer to all of them as PVT. Instead of PVT, PV2, and PFC, since the public would have clue what those ment.
