Canadian-made Diemaco C8 is very similar to the US Colt M4, but it has full-auto capability and thus wouldn't be available for civilian use. Most true semi-auto assault rifles are older rifles, such as the Russian-made SKS. Unless you can find a custom-chambered M4 or M4A1 which I would guess is very hard if not impossible to find. The actual M4 fires single and 3-round shots, while the M4A1 fires full auto, so I don't know what kind of semi-auto laws Canada would accept.
