Average temps only need to fall by a few degrees in order to go into an ice age.
There have been theories that rising water levels as a result of melting glaciers could mess up the gulf stream, which delivers a lot of heat to Western Europe and North America. If the gulf stream were to stop delivering this warmth, you could be in for an unpleasant time.
Anyway, an ice age isn't going to kill you. Our ancestors lived through the last one 10,000 years ago. It'll happen again.
Personally I believe a major energy crisis will plague the western world within the next 15-30 years that will result in collapsing economies worldwide including the US which will end up scuttling the planet into war and an inevitable third world.
Either that or the machines will turn against us.
