[quote="Short Hand":a1d61]Shiva = Adire's lower end stuff, I never knew it produced such value @ that price . Adire did develop the XBL2 tech ? Ik now jbl uses it in the w7 line and the same with RE. I would never purchase a timult or MT though, I would reserve either of them for a show car if I ever get around to making one*.[/quote:a1d61]
Well yeah the shiva is one of the cheaper offerings by adire, but its not low-end in the scheme of things by any means. It gained its fame in home audio, then people started putting them in their cars and figured out they sound great, just need big boxes. And yes, Dan and Adire Audio patented the XBL^2 motor, basically its a design with two seperate gaps so that the motor retains its strength even at high levels of excursion, VERY flat BL curve, it can also be used in midwoofer applications (RE's XXX mids) and in tweeters. You mean JL's W7 line? No, it doesnt use XBL^2, iirc, it uses a "heavily modded" underhung motor design which also produces a very flat BL curve. The W7 is often said to sound more natural than XBL^2 drivers, what that means is your call, I've played around with them and I honestly cant hear a big difference in sound, they all are extremly clean, loud, and accurate.
