I believe it should be holding your head 45 degrees forward (as to stop you from chocking on your own blood. As far as im aware... first aid books have been changed to this.
first aid books keep changing back and forth between pinching the bridge of the nose and pinching the nostrils.

I once had a nose bleed in school (6th grade). The nurse told me to pinch the bridge of my nose. It kept bleeding and bleeding. So I went to the hospital in an ambulence. The doctor told me to pinch my nostrils....another told me the bridge. Then they quaterized my nose, but it only worked for 5 years or so and now I get nose bleeds every so often. They're usually caused by dry weather and the inside of the nose cracks up.
