dont ever leave a brush untextured (ie black n blue checkers) ... you will get erroneous streaks of light ... usually a yellowish color running straight through your map. Always caulk it. And I would suggest using normal caulk and not the blank_lighmap caulk. The blank_lightmap caulk will leave the brush white when compiled... whereas the normal caulk texture will render it invisible.
