I remember a dude getting sucked into the engine and thats why it exploded not some magic carpet shit..
Strange artifects, resembling patches of black smoke, were seen striking the Turbine Man and the plane's engine before exploding in Pilot. A screen capture can be seen here. Writers stated this is not "The Monster". It is possibly a graphical glitch, caused by special effects, though it still remains a persistent rumor.
