You have to smoke salvia with a butane lighter so it's a bigger stronger hit, and you have to hold it in pretty much until you pass out.

Coublaka you probably weren't in a comfortable setting or you didn't have the right mind set for doing it, so you got freaked out. People with a clear mind can take it fine and trip balls. I don't know where you heard 30-60 second long hits.. probably the kid trying to get you to do it said that.
