First they have to take the train out of service so they can remove the affected cars, so there is a loss of revenue. There is a loss of revenue while the cars are being cleaned. Someone has to be paid to clean the cars, and there is cleaning supplies that have to be purchased. Someone else has to inspect the cars to make sure they are clean, and a manager has to approve the cars to return to service. Then the train has to be taken out of service to reconnect the cars. I can see where it would be easy to say that £2,000 could be spent per car.
Hose them down and get it over with.
