That's what I meant by small servers though. Due to their size, not many people can play on them so there's only but so much popularity they can gain. you only end up having a limited group of friends or regulars who go there since they're the only ones that ever get in.

and often many players just prefer larger servers to join in the first place.... if I filter empty servers only on gamespy, the majority of them that show up are smaller ones. also with small servers, you're more likely to come across listen servers than with larger servers. not saying anything is wrong with small ones.

my mention of good ping was just that it allows people from farther distances to play happily. if your server only pings well in the USA, you're not going to have anybody on it at 4am. a good pinging server will be full or at least still have a decent number of players 24/7.

using autokick and keeping TKers etc. off your server is just common sense. taking off rockets or using the language filter doesn't necessarily guarantee popularity considering you could be alienating some users (obviously you didn't want them there in the first place, but I'm talking in terms of general popularity....those are people who won't come back). and overall, every player has their own preferences.... there's plenty who ONLY play realism for example, or only one gametype such as objective.

basically you can't account for everyone on any one server all the time. it's like that saying... "you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." the key is pleasing as many as possible.
